The Bible says many things about how we are to conduct ourselves regarding our relationships before, during, and after marriage. The Bible commands us to not have relations with sexually immoral people (1 Corinthians 5:11). So, if I behaved in such a way, would it be only right for another Godly person to not want to associate with me? The Bible also says the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit (Galatians 5:19), and that we are to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provisions for the flesh (Romans 13:14).
Before we are married, how are we to conduct ourselves with the person we are going to marry? For one, there should be no pre-marital sex. Several scriptures back this statement:
1 Corinthians 6:13
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.Ephesians 5:3
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.Colossians 3:5
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.1 Thessalonians 4:3
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;
These are just a few verses that God shares with us regarding sexual immorality. When we pray for fleeing from sexual immorality, how do we do so?
Our Prayer
We come to You Lord, in all sincerity, to ask that You give us the strength to abstain from sexual immorality and the lust of the flesh. Give us the desire, through Your Holy Spirit, to honor You with our bodies, to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, as holy and acceptable before You, as those who have been brought from death to life. Amen
