Be Careful What You Don’t Ask For

Article written by Brother Bledsoe

I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
Psalm 85:8-13

Someone that I know personally once said, “If you don’t want to know what God will say to you, don’t ask because He will tell you.” I don’t know about the theology of that statement, but it could be right on track.

However, the Psalmist wrote, “I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for He will speak peace.” In a nation that had to fight constant battles just to survive, peace would be a wonderful thing. God’s message, through Christ Jesus, is “peace.” It is through Christ’s suffering on the Cross that we have peace. In the next phrase the Psalmist wrote: “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” Mercy comes to us through the Cross. Truth is what God is. The blaring loudness of our sins could not be quieted because of truth but mercy came through the blood of Christ and calmed the storm that was raging in us. So “mercy and truth” had a meeting and out of that meeting the righteous demands of Holy God were satisfied by the offering up of His only begotten Son and the kiss of eternal peace with God was heard when Jesus said, “It is finished.”

Truth had to be embodied in Christ so when He was conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary, truth sprang out of the earth and God (righteousness) looked down from heaven and was well pleased.

In the day that our Lord comes to earth again truth shall go before Him, the Lord will give that which is good, and the earth will yield her increase as never before. Peace will be found in all the earth; no one will go to bed hungry; disease will be a thing of the past and the people of God will rule with Christ for one thousand years. What a glorious day that is going to be. Look for it, it is coming. Amen and amen.

Rewind Your Brain

Do you worry about anything and everything? Do you expect bad things to happen to you? Do you listen to the doubters, skeptics and unbelievers more than you listen to God? If you answered yes to any one of these questions you need to stop, rewind your brain all the way back to the time that you knelt in prayer, confessed your sins and received Christ into your heart; because at that moment in time you knew that God had forgiven you and that He would bless and keep you.

I Will

Throughout the Bible God gives us His promises and relates them to us by saying “I will” do this or that and most of the time they come with the condition by The Lord saying, “if” we will keep His Word and be obedient. In the Psalms the writer states, “I will,” do such and such but never seems to put a condition on God. We are to do what is right even when God does not bless us for doing so, don’t you think?
