He is Your Refuge and Your Strength

Article written by Brother Bledsoe

I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me. Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me.”
Psalm 142:4-7 (NLT)

How is going with you today? Do you feel friendless? Do you feel so low that you have to look up to see bottom? Are you depressed over your depression? Are there times when you would like to just have a friendly conversation with someone but they don’t call you and you don’t call them because you don’t want to impose on them? Have you found that when you begin to tell people your problems that they don’t want to listen; instead they begin to tell you about theirs or they walk away from you?

I heard of two pastors at a convention; they were supposedly good friends but the one began to tell the other all about the difficulties he was having but the other said to him, “I have more troubles than I can deal with; I don’t want to hear someone else’s problems, I need to find someone where things are going great to encourage me.”

Climbing out of the Bottomless Pit

Could that be what was happening with the psalmist David?” He looked for someone to come and help him but no one gave a hoot about how he was feeling. He felt that no one cared, not even a little bit, about what happened to him. Then he prayed to the LORD and said, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. Hear my cry, for I am really low. You are good to me.”

As with David, when you call on the Lord, you will begin to climb out of the bottomless pit of despair. You will begin to feel positive again. Your problems will begin to diminish. The godly who avoided you before will begin to crowd around you again. You will find that the LORD who saved you from your sins and adopted you into His forever family and who loves you was there all the time. Call on Him today, He is your refuge and your strength. Amen, amen and amen!!

Don’t Throw Water On That Fire!

Having pastored for more than forty years I have seen many ways that people put a wet blanket on the fire of the Spirit. The first and most obvious is unbelief which shows up in many ways; such as skepticism, stubbornness, pride, and sin in the life through unrepentance, etc.

Beans And Taters

Think about it, how many mealtimes do you remember that you had to miss because there was no food in the house? I can’t remember any. Our meals might have consisted of beans and taters but we still had food on the table.

Are You Following Another Rut?

My dad used to tell me stories of when he was young. He told me, when he would drive in the roads (they were not paved highways) that ruts would be so deep that he would take his hands off of the steering wheel and the old car would drive itself down the way in the ruts. It must have been the earliest version of the self-driving car. But I digress—again.
