His Name Shall Be Called… The Everlasting Father

Article written by Brother Bledsoe

His name shall be called…The everlasting Father,
Isaiah 9:6.

There was a story of a foreign missionary’s son who had remained in America. The boy kept a picture of his father over his desk. At Christmas one of the boy’s friends asked, “What would you like most to have this Christmas?’

The young man replied without hesitation, “I would like for my father to step out of that Picture.”

H. C. Gabhart wrote, “In Christ, God did just that.”

What is the Meaning Behind This?

The name Everlasting Father or Father of eternity carries with it the idea of tender care and immortal life, beautifully blended. Jesus has much to do with eternity. As Everlasting Father, Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58) He is now our reigning Lord, and He is Lord of all future time. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8).

As Father of eternity He has never been a forsaking Father, nor a vindictive Father, nor a jealous Father. He has always been a forgiving Father, and ever-present Father, and a loving Father.

Dying persons need and have an undying Christ. Living persons need and have a living Christ. All of God’s children need an everlasting Father who will provide guidance, love, and peace. Jesus is the One. Trust Him and you will see. Amen.

Beans And Taters

Think about it, how many mealtimes do you remember that you had to miss because there was no food in the house? I can’t remember any. Our meals might have consisted of beans and taters but we still had food on the table.

Are You Following Another Rut?

My dad used to tell me stories of when he was young. He told me, when he would drive in the roads (they were not paved highways) that ruts would be so deep that he would take his hands off of the steering wheel and the old car would drive itself down the way in the ruts. It must have been the earliest version of the self-driving car. But I digress—again.
