Home Is Where The Heart Is

Article written by Brother Bledsoe

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. It is God who controls our days and when He says it is time for the body to return to the dust, to the dust it shall return. For a thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
Psalm 90:1-4 (Paraphrase mine).

Isn’t it great that you can have place that you call home? Some people say that home is where the heart is while others say that home is wherever they can hang their hat.  This psalm was written by Moses.  Remember, Pharaoh wanted to kill every boy below the age of two but Moses was rescued from the river by Pharaoh’s daughter and grew up in opulence for forty years—but he wasn’t home.

At age 40 he fled to Midian and was there for forty years, married a wife and had children—but he wasn’t home yet.  At the age of 80 he led the children of Israel out of Egypt’s bondage and for forty more years led them through the wilderness—but he wasn’t home yet.  The only dwelling place that he had while on this earth was the Lord Himself.

He recognized the security of dwelling totally in God and God alone.  He knew that God alone was eternal and if he could find a safe place to pass through this life until he finally got home it was in God.  Before the earth was formed, or the stars were put in place, or the sun and moon were spoken into existence—God was (and is). That is security.

You and I may have a good place to call home and we may have a good bed to sleep on at night but we are not really home yet.  When we get to our eternal home a thousand years with the Lord will seem like a day or as Moses put it, “like a watch in the night.”

You may get the idea that I like the old songs and I do because they speak to my heart and mind so here is a verse of another: “There’s a land that is fairer than day, and by faith I can see it afar; for the Father waits over the way, to prepare us a dwelling place there.”  We have a home that waiting for us so, every day, let us continue to be faithful to our Lord and His Word.  For some of us our dwelling place may be almost ready to move in.  Don’t despair, it will be more beautiful than anything that we can ever possess or imagine here.  Keep looking up and don’t give up. Amen and amen.

Rewind Your Brain

Do you worry about anything and everything? Do you expect bad things to happen to you? Do you listen to the doubters, skeptics and unbelievers more than you listen to God? If you answered yes to any one of these questions you need to stop, rewind your brain all the way back to the time that you knelt in prayer, confessed your sins and received Christ into your heart; because at that moment in time you knew that God had forgiven you and that He would bless and keep you.

I Will

Throughout the Bible God gives us His promises and relates them to us by saying “I will” do this or that and most of the time they come with the condition by The Lord saying, “if” we will keep His Word and be obedient. In the Psalms the writer states, “I will,” do such and such but never seems to put a condition on God. We are to do what is right even when God does not bless us for doing so, don’t you think?

It’s Not All “Hunky-Dory”

If you read on in this Psalm you will find that not all was hunky-dory will David. As usual he was facing some enemy and he was pleading his cause before the LORD. But in the midst of his trials, he was determined to praise and worship the LORD.
