Secret Sins

Article written by Brother Bledsoe

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You.
Psalm 139:7-12

If the first six verses of this Psalm speak of the omniscience of God, then certainly the six verses above speak of His omnipresence. The Psalmist clearly states that one cannot run from God and get away from Him, for He is present everywhere, all the time. The first question tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that the sinner cannot get away from.

Secret Sins

The backsliders may want to get away from the presence of the Lord when they do their “secret” sins. They may not want the conviction of the Holy Spirit, but wherever they may wander and wherever they may roam they will find that He is there, and the guilt they feel will be there also. If they could join a settlement on some faraway planet, He would be there; if they could make their bed in hell, He would be there; if there was some distant island of the sea, when they get there, they would find that He is already there, and that He will not let them go.

Confessing to the One Who Knows

There is only one thing to do when one commits a “secret sin”; stop trying to run from God and confess it to the One who knows and will not let you go. Return to God and He will return to you with His blessings. Isaiah wrote: “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

It is because He loves you that He will not let you flee from His presence. No one can run from God. He doesn’t have to outrun anyone, He is already there. Are you running from God?

For The Living

He also remembers that His “compassion” fails not.  Compassion is love applied to the hurting rather than sympathy which is feeling sorry but doing nothing about the pain and suffering of others. Faithfulness is always being there and always being true to one’s word.  Over and over again the Word proclaims that God is faithful.  Literally, He never changes so His Word to us never changes—it is always true.

Inheritance Incorruptible

In the midst of troubles and trials because the genuineness of your faith is tested. Peter wrote that even then your faith is more precious than gold even though it is sometimes tested by fire. To whom is your faith precious? Is it not precious to the one who has it and is it not precious to the One who gives it? Is it not above word?

The Vision

Your faith (and mine) in Christ Jesus should have a profound effect on us and because the end result of our faith is the salvation of our souls. It is through your faith in the finished work of Christ and the confession of your faith that have resulted in your name being penned in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
