I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. When my enemies turn back; they shall fall and perish at Your presence.
Psalm 9:1-3
Notice in this Psalm that David it talking to the Lord and not to the people. This Psalm is personal, between David and the Lord. Often, we find ourselves praising God to people but how often do we just praise God, to God and for God alone.
He tells God, in his praise to Him that he will tell others of His marvelous works. That is being a witness. He will tell others of the time that he faced the bear and the lion; of the time that he faced Goliath; of the many times that God protected him when he was being pursued by Saul; of the times in battle when God brought about the victories.
It was something that David decided and determined to do when he said, “I will praise You.” Not only had he made the decision to praise the Lord, he would do so with His “whole heart.” David knew that half-hearted praise was not really praise at all. You see, for David, praising God brought joy and happiness to his heart. He said, “I will be glad and rejoice.”
